But nowadays we are looking at a completely different future, one where BMW Designworks has something to say about what’s what. The special division from BMW joined forces with Virgin Hyperloop One in order to create a prototype design for the Dubai hyperloop capsule. Recently unveiled at City Walk Dubai, the full-scale hyperloop prototype before you has left everyone in the audience speechless. The Hyperloop will be more cost efficient to society than airplanes, taking you from point A to point B at impressive speeds of up to 1,080 km/h. Etihad is setting a whole new standard in air travel with this private room. Traveling from Abu Dhabi to London just got even better and for the cost of only  $21,000 (Euros 17.500) I am personally looking forward to more airlines creating such wonderful travel accommodations. While low-cost carriers try to squeeze new seats into every last inch of cabin space, luxury airlines are taking first class to new heights. Quickly-growing Mideast carrier Etihad Airways is the first airline to offer a multi-room suite for its most privileged guests. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad’s chief commercial officer, told the AP a suite will likely cost about three or four times as much as a regular first-class seat. That would be about $21,000 (Euros 17.500) for a one-way ticket from Abu Dhabi to London. Flying is all about getting to your destination quickly and directly—yet since 2003, when the Concorde was retired, no civilian aircraft have been available that can fly at Mach 1 or faster. NASA aims to change that by designing and testing a new experimental aircraft that will break the sound barrier without creating the annoying and destructive sonic booms that are banned across much of the world. The agency has awarded a $247 million contract to the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company to build a new X-Plane—an experimental, one-of-a-kind, piloted jet—to test out cutting-edge technologies that aim to soften the impact of the booms. The end goal is to transfer the then-proven technology to commercial manufacturers, which can bring back commercial supersonic air travel. Bell Helicopter unveils a new air-taxi concept at CES in Las Vegas. The aviation world is fascinated with urban air taxis these days—small, autonomous, electric vehicles that can take off and land vertically. Developers hope these new aircraft will rescue urban-based travelers from gridlock and delay. But officials at Bell Helicopter, a Texas company that’s been building helicopters since the 1930s, say air taxis are nothing new—that’s exactly the niche helicopters have filled for decades. Helicopters, of course, could at best be considered a first-generation air taxi—they’re powered by noisy, fossil-fuel-burning engines, and they require expertly trained pilots. Supersonic jetliner travel, which ended more than a decade ago with the Concorde, is set for a boost after Japan Airlines (JAL) agreed to invest $10 million in Colorado startup Boom Technology. The strategic partnership deal will give JAL a 1% stake in the Denver-based company, reports Japan Times. JAL has actually already been working with Boom for over a year, according to Boom founder and CEO Blake Scholl, but this more clearly formalizes the relationship. Having airline stakeholders closely involved in how the development of its aircraft and service plans will work is a huge boon for Boom, which is a very small company. “We’ve been working with Japan Airlines behind the scenes for over a year now,” said Scholl. “JAL’s passionate, visionary team offers decades of practical knowledge and wisdom on everything from the passenger experience to technical operations.
